I would gladly pay to watch roadkill if only it were on YouTube. Motortrend on demand app is complete garbage. The lack of Chrome cast support is an instant dead on arrival for me. But otherwise it's still a garbage app anyways. I miss roadkill so much now though.

I have never had an issue with the video player. I’ve heard a lot of issues from people with the free/ads thing though. I cancelled my netflix a good while back (when it was still free on youtube) and got the on-demand thing, have never had an issue refreshing the page didn’t fix, and even that is very rare.

Probably saw it and said “that looks expensive” and proceeded to steal it. They’re in for a sore surprise when they hotwire it and find out it’s bad. I’d say 50/50 on it being found abandoned somewhere with some random parts stripped vs t he who le drivetrain gone (if they even find the chassis)

I strongly suspect they didn’t know two key pieces of info:

1) The car is internet-famous

2) The engine and transmission (the only valuable parts) are blown

I've only tried the free version, the paid version might be less bad. But the ads kept crashing the player and doing weird things for me. I didn't mind the ads themselves, just that it screwed up playback. Chromecast support is a must though. I was able to use Android built in chromecast the whole device but that is a garbage way of doing it. I don't think they support any other media players either, just the Android/ios app which is useless for watching at home.

That could also be a difference. I don’t use any of that stuff; I watch internet videos on the computer. I didn’t even know there was a mobile version of kinja/oppo until not very long ago. I use my phone to call and text people (and check the weather); I use the computer for entertainment. I can’t imagine how much data streaming videos burns though, and if you’re at home on wi-fi, the computer screen is much easier to see than a phone :) (I don’t have a TV)

It is a cool truck (I’d love to have a REPU) and parts on them are certainly scarce, but typically car thieves don’t go after “parts for this are rare let’s nab it and try to part it out to the 14 people who currently need parts” - they want “look at that big shiny engine” fast and easy cash sales.

At home I use my projector which has a PS3 game system and a chromecast hooked up to it. The phone is just a remote control for the chromecast though, it's convenient since it works with my phone, tablet, and any friends with iPhones or androids to just throw stuff up on the wall. I don't even use my laptop much anymore. I did make the mistake of watching a roadkill episode on my phone once via that app. I used like 1gb of data for one episode lol.

I found it well worth it. When netflix jacked their prices up yet again to over $10/mo I re-evaulated the fact that I watched something on it maybe once or twice a month. I cancelled that and signed up for MTOD at less than half the cost and find myself using it at least once a week, usually more. I don’t watch any of the discovery stuff on there either, but there’s a ton available outside of the motor trend originals (though I just watch the originals).

I do agree, but Youtube is really badly scratching that itch for me. MCM+Skid Factory is great, so is Harry’s Garage and Hoovie’s. Those combined with sporadic other videos keeps me more than busy, I’ve no time for something else just now.

Given that Roadkill eps only come out infrequently and I don’t care for most of the rest of Motor Trend, I’ve been putting off buying the subscription.

That’s fair - if Roadkill is the only thing you’re interested in, the $5/mo becomes $5/episode which isn’t a great deal. It’s more worth it if you’re also watching Roadkill garage, dirt every day, hot rod garage, engine masters, and some of the ‘extras’ on top of it.

I do like Roadkill garage. And Dirt Every Day piques my interest from time to time. So does Engine Masters and a lot of the extras.
